Senator Charles Schumer said it best, The Ronkonkoma Transit Development is one of National significance. The success or failure of this project will be known all throughout the country and possibly every train station community worldwide.
What makes our project unique is that it’s starting from the ground (even underground) up. Mostly all the train stations have development already. Our Train Station region on the north side was deemed blighted by the Town Of Brookhaven and the project is taking an entire 55 acre region.
South of the RR tracks is the Midway Crossing and Airport Terminal projects whish has seen some approvals and intermunicipal agreements to date. These projects are well behind Station Yards (Hub) which completed phase 1 and quickly being built.
Some of the leaders of the GRCA have been tracking this since 2011 and we are still in just the beginning stages. Covid 19 did put a 2 year hold on the projects, but today they seem to be full steam ahead.
Historic Downtown Lake Ronkonkoma is the Hawkins & Portion region. The New Downtown Ronkonkoma is around the Ronkonkoma Train Station region.
Resident have shown concern with congestion, safety and school costs and the urbanization of a New York suburb.
